Asif rejected the offer of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television

Asif Akbar, a beloved figure in the music world of Bangladesh. Recently made headlines due to a significant change in his career. After being absent from the airwaves of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television (BTV) for 18 years, he is now back in the news. Asif’s name finally appeared on the ‘white list’ of artistes eligible to perform.  As a result of the political changes that followed the fall of the government on August 5.

Long absence of Asif

Asif Akbar’s absence from the state media was due to his political affiliations, particularly his support for the BNP party. For nearly two decades, he faced restrictions that kept him off the air despite his popularity and talent. Now, with the new political backdrop, he is getting calls from both Betar and BTV, again expressing interest in doing new shows on him.
Despite the offer, Asif Akbar took a defiant stance. He politely declined the invitation to attend the event organized by this media outlet. Reflecting on his career, he pointed out that blacklisting silenced him for 18 of his 24 years in music. He insisted that he did not want to return to the same platform that had sidelined him for so long.
Asif recounts a recent invitation from a Bangladesh Radio worker, which he had to decline. She also got a call from a producer at BTV who wanted to start afresh with her, but she also declined. He mentions that since his songs are now being played on BTV. They have changed his name, which he finds unacceptable.

Asif Akbar focuses on his future while acknowledging his past. He has transitioned to a new phase in life, stating, “I was young and now I’m middle-aged.” He has chosen to stop acting in private TV channels, a decision influenced by his extensive experience of feeling confined in that environment.

Despite the challenges, Asif is optimistic. He expressed her gratitude to be in Bangladesh and plans to continue singing on stage for her fans. He admits that many have missed his songs and feels a sense of joy knowing that someone else will get a chance to shine on the radio and BTV.
