The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Will Not Be Held in Bangladesh

 

The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 has finally been eliminated from Bangladesh. The International Cricket Council (ICC) made the decision after a virtual meeting on Tuesday, August 20. The United Arab Emirates has been chosen as the new venue. However, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka had expressed their interest in hostingĀ  Women’s World Cup 2024. Although the ICC will host the T20 tournament in the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh will officially serve as the host nation. The matches will take place in Dubai and Sharjah.

The political unrest created after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government has affected the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Australia and several other countries have banned citizens from traveling to Bangladesh due to the unstable situation for a few days. However, the situation is now under control. ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardyce has said that they are moving the Women’s World Cup. I thank everyone working in the BCB for making all efforts to organize the Women’s T20 World Cup. However, the governments of some of the participating parties imposed travel restrictions, making it impossible to organize it in Bangladesh. However, Bangladesh will retain the hosting rights.

Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe expressed interest in hosting the World Cup. Geoff Allardyce also thanked the two countries separately.
